Dr. Gowds Dental Hospitals is the first to place CAD-CAM Dental Restorations in Hyderabad based dental crowns in South India in the year, 2012. Computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) have become an increasingly popular part of dentistry over the past 25 years. Dr. Gowds Dental Hospitals is equipped with a modern and technologically advanced in-house laboratory. This allows our hospitals to undertake CAD/CAM dentistry that decreases the turn-around time for treatments, much appreciated by international patients who have tight schedules.

The technology is so precise that dental restorations made by CAD-CAM often fit better than those made by hand. Patient satisfaction is being increased simply because you can have your tooth repaired in a single day, instead of having to return for repeat appointments. Spending time in the dentist’s chair is low on most people’s priority lists, and CAD-CAM dentistry technology is helping you move on faster than ever before.
Cerec 3D is the state of the art technology that makes it easy for the dentists and patients in making all kinds of restorations with micro millimeter accuracy in a span of few hours. Clinical applications include metal and all-ceramic crowns and bridges, onlays, inlays, and veneers, as well as a variety of implant restorations. The system can also produce custom implant abutments in both zirconia and titanium.
By using the CAD-CAM technology, we are in complete control of the final result. Since the crown, inlay, onlay or veneer is designed and fabricated from start to finish by us, we have total control over how it will look and fit. A crown made in a laboratory is under the control of technicians and assistants who work of plaster models and have not even seen the patient, and this affects the end result.
CAD-CAM dentistry uses a 3D scan, computer design and in-house milling to make crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays and veneers with micron-level accuracy, often in a single visit. Dr. Gowds Dental Hospitals was the first in South India to place CAD-CAM crowns, in 2012, and has an in-house CAD-CAM laboratory.
| Step | What happens |

| 1. Preparation | The tooth is examined and shaped under local anaesthesia |
| 2. 3D scan | An intraoral scanner captures the tooth in seconds; no impression paste |
| 3. Digital design | The crown is designed on screen to match your bite and neighbouring teeth |
| 4. Milling | The crown is milled from a ceramic block in our in-house lab |
| 5. Fitting | The crown is checked, polished and bonded in place, often the same day |
| CAD-CAM crown | Conventional lab crown | |
|---|---|---|
| Impressions | 3D digital scan | Impression paste |
| Visits | Often one | Usually two or more |

Yes. A CAD-CAM crown is milled from a solid, factory-made ceramic block, so the material is dense and uniform. Your dentist chooses the ceramic according to the tooth and your bite, for example a stronger material for back teeth that take heavy chewing forces.
Most front and back teeth can. Some cases need extra steps first, such as a tooth with decay below the gum line, a tooth that needs root canal treatment, or heavy teeth grinding. Your dentist confirms this after an examination and X-ray.
Yes. A back tooth that has had root canal treatment usually needs a crown to protect it from cracking. Once the root canal is complete, the tooth can be scanned and the crown designed, milled and fitted, often in the same visit.
The tooth is numbed with local anaesthesia, so the visit feels similar to having a filling. The tooth and gum may feel slightly sore for a day or two afterwards.
With good brushing, flossing and regular check-ups, a well-fitted ceramic crown can last many years. Teeth grinding, biting hard objects and gum disease shorten its life, so your dentist may suggest a night guard if you grind your teeth.
Yes. The same technology makes crowns on dental implants, custom abutments in zirconia or titanium, inlays, onlays and veneers.
